The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, has called on Nigerians, particularly those in leadership positions, to embrace the spirit of patriotism as a catalyst for inclusive growth and national development.
She made the call in Abuja while receiving members of the Committee for the 6th Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Annual Award Memorial Lecture, led by former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.
Uzoka-Anite said the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s ideals of patriotism, education, and public service remain timeless, urging today’s leaders to translate those values into actions that promote economic empowerment and create opportunities for all Nigerians.
A statement issued by Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, quoted her as saying, “Dr. Azikiwe’s legacy continues to guide us. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are committed to driving sound fiscal management, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable prosperity for all Nigerians. Recognitions like this strengthen our resolve to serve even more diligently.”
The minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sound fiscal policies and inclusive economic management in line with President Bola Tinubu’s policy direction. She also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, and Zenith Bank Chairman Jim Ovia for their support and the opportunity to contribute to nation-building.
Commending the award committee, Uzoka-Anite praised its efforts in honouring national icons and promoting dialogue on leadership, governance, and national progress.
In his remarks, Dr. Babangida Aliyu emphasized the importance of unity and shared vision as the foundation of Nigeria’s sustainable development. He said the Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Award recognises individuals whose contributions have significantly advanced their communities and the nation.
Aliyu also described Uzoka-Anite’s appointment as Minister as “well-deserved,” citing her integrity, professionalism, and commitment to Nigeria’s financial stability. He added that the visit was a prelude to the 6th Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Memorial Lecture and Award Ceremony, scheduled for November 2025.
