The Interim leadership of the Labour Party (LP), led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has affirmed its support for former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi as he joins the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement released late Wednesday in Abuja by Usman’s Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, the party highlighted that Obi’s participation in coalition talks with the ADC has been fully backed by the LP since May 2025.

“As the nation may recall, on 26th May 2025, the Labour Party confirmed its support for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, to engage in the ADC coalition,” the statement read. “This position was reiterated on 3rd July 2025 following the official unveiling of the ADC.”

Usman’s team reassured party members that Obi’s formal move to the ADC does not affect the LP’s commitment to its mission. The leadership stressed that it remains focused on restructuring the party, filling the gaps created by recent defections, and revitalising its operations nationwide.

“The ongoing membership revalidation and registration exercise is already yielding positive results and is designed to inject new energy into the party,” the statement said.

Asogwa further assured Nigerians that under Senator Usman, the Labour Party will continue to offer a credible, people-centred alternative to the ruling APC, promising that the party will emerge stronger and more organized ahead of the 2027 elections.

The LP reaffirmed confidence in its future, stating, “We remain optimistic that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
