The Katsina State Government has revoked the operational licences of all private and community schools across the 34 local government areas of the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Sani Danjuma Suleiman, said the affected schools are required to reapply for fresh licences.
According to the statement, the government has reviewed fees for licence application, registration, annual renewal, and school upgrades. It, however, cautioned that the new charges must not result in an increase in tuition without approval from the ministry.
The government directed that while the re-registration process is ongoing, schools are to continue normal operations.
“All existing licences for private and community schools were terminated effective 13th August 2025, as approved by the State Executive Council,” the statement read.
It further instructed schools to submit payment receipts for application and registration fees to the ministry’s Department of Private and Community Schools in line with their categorisation. All payments, it said, must be made to the state’s Single Treasury Account at JAIZ Bank PLC on or before September 30, 2025.
