Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (Rtd.), will on Friday, October 3, 2025, present his new book on the Boko Haram insurgency to the public in Abuja.
The book, titled Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, will be unveiled at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
According to the Chairman of the Book Launch Organising Committee, Jonah Ejenavi, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been invited as Special Guest of Honour, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo will chair the occasion. The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, is billed to review the book.
Ejenavi described the 330-page work as a compelling examination of Boko Haram’s origins, operations, and impact, noting that it offers solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges.
“The emergence of Boko Haram in 2002 ushered in an unprecedented era of bloodbath, destruction of property, and devastation of economies across Nigeria and the wider West African region,” he said.
He added that Irabor’s experience leading Nigerian forces against the insurgents provides a unique perspective, offering readers a deeper understanding of the group and its implications for regional security.
The book is divided into 14 chapters across three parts, exploring Nigeria’s historical security roots, the Boko Haram conundrum, and the paradigm shift required to build peace despite insurgency threats.
Reviewers have described Scars as “destined to change the Boko Haram narrative.”
