The Academic Staff Union of Universities is planning a one-day nationwide protest rally in response to the Federal Government’s implementation of a “no work, no pay” policy for lecturers in the country.

The protest will be organized at the union’s branch levels across public university campuses across the country, and it will take the form of a lecture-free day for all lecturers who are members.

“We are protesting. Branches will choose their own dates, the government needs to understand that we are not casual workers.”

The development was confirmed in a letter from the chair of the University of Lagos branch of ASUU, Dr. Dele Ashir, who also highlighted that the branch would protest on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

The special congress and protest demonstration against the casualization of intellectualism in Nigeria will take place on “Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Julius Berger auditorium,” according to the letter, which was addressed to “all stakeholders.”
