Oseloka Obi, son of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied allegations linking him to homosexuality following the circulation of photographs showing him with London-based British-Nigerian, Kent Okwesa.
The images, which surfaced online on Wednesday, depicted Oseloka and Okwesa sitting closely at a restaurant in the United Kingdom, sparking widespread speculation on social media.
Reacting in a statement, Oseloka dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated, alleging that his father’s involvement in Nigerian politics has made him a constant target of malicious rumours.
“Because of my father’s involvement in Nigerian politics, there has been persistent curiosity and, at times, malicious obsession with me,” he said.
He explained that although he rarely responds to false narratives due to his lack of social media presence, the continued spread of the allegations made it necessary to issue a response.
Oseloka clarified that the photographs were ordinary snapshots with friends and colleagues, insisting that attempts to misrepresent them were baseless.
“The truth is simple: Peter Obi’s son appears in photos with his friends and colleagues, nothing more. If people wish to invent otherwise, I hope they sleep soundly knowing they are spreading lies,” he stated.
While acknowledging that neither he nor his father is perfect, Oseloka expressed confidence in his father’s integrity and leadership qualities, noting that he supports him because “he is the right man for the job.”
He urged Nigerians to shift their focus from personal scandals to addressing the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
