Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, on Tuesday, reshuffled his cabinet with the swearing-in of a new Head of Service, six commissioners, and the reassignment of three existing members of the executive council.
The oath of office was administered by Chizoba Ogbodo from the Ministry of Justice during a ceremony held at the State Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Enugu.
Dr. Godwin Anigbo was sworn in as the new Head of Service, while Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh was appointed Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure. Others sworn in include Prof. Benedett Ekwutosi Okoli as Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna as Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, and Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo as Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry. Also appointed were Prof. George Ugwu as Commissioner for Health and Engr. Ben Collins Ndu Jr. as Commissioner for Water Resources.
In a related development, Dr. Felix Nnamani was redeployed from the Ministry of Water Resources to serve as Commissioner for Labour and Employment. Dr. Malachy Agbo was moved from Human Development and Poverty Eradication to the Ministry of Information, while former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji, was reassigned to the Ministry of Housing.
Addressing the new appointees, Governor Mbah urged them to immediately hit the ground running, stressing that there would be no honeymoon period. He noted that the administration had raised expectations within the state and nationally, and could not afford to lose momentum.
“You would soon notice that here in Enugu, we have steered such high expectations among our people. Every day feels like we are presenting a scorecard,” Mbah said. “We have set clear targets and measurable key performance indicators. You will be assessed based on your outcomes and results.”
The governor also emphasized teamwork, warning against working in silos. “We recognise team players, not lone champions. Your colleagues should complement your work, not compete with you. Our achievements so far have come through collective effort,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo thanked the governor for the opportunity, pledging that they would uphold their oath of office and contribute meaningfully to the administration’s success.
“We are deeply honoured by your trust and will remain loyal, dedicated, and focused on delivering results,” he said.
The event was witnessed by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia; Chief of Staff, Barr. Victor Udeh; other top government officials; and family members of the appointees.
