Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has criticized the growing number of internally displaced people (IDPs) and refugee migration from Cameroon to Benue, saying the state is in danger.
He stated that it was difficult to manage the refugees and IDPs, claiming that over 134,000 people had been displaced as a result of the flood, but that there were fewer casualties owing to early sensitization.
He stated that the government was still pressuring host towns to enable the refugees to reside.
The governor requested assistance from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
Ortom remarked at Benue Peoples House in Makurdi after receiving an Inter-Agency Technical Committee from the ministry.
