Former Senator representing Osun West, Mudashiru Husain, on Tuesday declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, pledging to end Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Husain, a two-term member of the House of Representatives and former National Commissioner on Population and Housing Census, made the declaration at the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Secretariat in Osogbo before party stakeholders led by State Chairman, Tajudeen Sooko Lawal.
The APC chieftain said he was politically grounded with experience at both the legislative and national levels, describing himself as “the major general” among aspirants within the party. He argued that Ejigbo Local Government, his constituency, should produce the next governor of the state.
Husain assured that if given the mandate, his administration would promote fairness and inclusivity, adding that he already has the political structures to take over governance in 2026. He appealed to party members across the state for support in actualising his ambition.
In his remarks, APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal urged aspirants to see themselves as one family and to work together for the success of the party. He expressed confidence that the APC would reclaim power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026, stressing that all the party’s aspirants were better positioned than Governor Adeleke.
