The new Management of Chelsea Football Club, led by Todd Boehly, has fired Thierry Laurent, the club’s long-serving chief physiotherapist. Since 2005, the physiotherapist has worked with the club’s senior players and was elevated to head physio in 2014.
Laurent played a crucial role behind the scenes in the club’s Champions League and Premier League title wins throughout his seventeen years of service. He was fired during the international break, according to the Daily Mail and on Tuesday, he was informed of his dismissal via a “brief zoom call.”
The news comes after Stamford Bridge’s medical director, Dr Paco Biosca, announced his departure after 11 years.
According to The Athletic, Laurent was ‘shocked’ by the news of his sudden dismissal during the zoom conversation, as he was told the new owners wanted to bring in their own person.
Laurent joins previous manager Thomas Tuchel, Marina Granovskaia, Bruce Buck, and Petr Cech in leaving the club in recent months. He’s departure will be felt just as severely by the players, particularly those who have been with the club for a while.
