Participants in the EndSARS commemoration detained on Thursday at the Lekki tollgate have been freed, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
In an interview with Channels Television, Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the police only apprehended a few troublemakers who were detained on the scene but were released after normalcy was restored.
He stated that the police were just present to provide security and guarantee that the procession went well, and that they only intervened when certain persons attempted to disrupt the free flow of traffic.
When asked why the police opted to deploy teargas on the EndSARS memorial attendees, a Lagos police spokesperson stated that they had no choice but to use teargas because a handful of the participants chose to remain at the tollgate.
