The Edo State Police Command has recovered N300,000 extorted from a furniture maker by officers attached to the Oba Market Area Command in Benin City.

Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, said in a statement on Monday that the officers involved had been detained and would face disciplinary action in line with police regulations.

He explained that the action followed a viral video posted by a social media influencer alleging the extortion. According to him, the money was fully refunded to the victim, while stern administrative measures have been taken against the Oba Market Area Command to enforce professionalism and discipline.

The Command urged residents to report unprofessional conduct by officers through its Public Complaints Bureau or Complaints Response Unit on 08150999335 and 08100389992.

Yamu added that Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, had restated the Command’s commitment to accountability and respect for citizens’ rights, while commending AIG Zone 5, Salman Dogo, for supporting transparent policing in Edo State.
