An armed group has claimed responsibility for recent school abductions in Kebbi and Niger states and warned of future attacks targeting military personnel and politicians.

The declaration came in a video released on Monday, circulating widely on social media, in which an armed man speaking in Hausa said the group would intensify attacks, asserting that the government “cannot stop” their operations. The footage shows the speaker surrounded by other armed men, drawing concern over the increasing boldness of the group.

The video comes just a week after 25 schoolgirls were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, and more than 300 students along with 12 teachers were kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara LGA, Niger State.

Security analysts say the video highlights a worsening security situation in the North, as armed groups operate with growing confidence amid minimal deterrence. The clip has triggered widespread outrage online, with Nigerians expressing frustration over the country’s escalating insecurity.

On X, users reacted strongly to the threat. @TaraBlinz wrote, “This kind of boast shouldn’t even be possible in a functioning country. How did we get here?” @justkency added, “The current state of Nigeria. Criminals are now emboldened enough to issue statements,” while @n95ly urged authorities to protect officials rather than innocent citizens.
