Luxury fashion house Chanel has appointed Ayo Edebiri as its first Black House Ambassador, marking a historic milestone in the brand’s 110-year history and underscoring a renewed commitment to diversity and cultural evolution in luxury fashion.
The announcement coincided with Matthieu Blazy’s Spring/Summer 2026 runway show, where Edebiri made a striking appearance in an all-black Chanel ensemble. Her official partnership with the brand began on October 6, symbolising what many in the industry are calling a “cultural reset” for the French label.
In a statement, Chanel praised Edebiri as “a new-generation performer whose distinctive style, wit, and creative spirit make her a natural ally of the brand.” The Emmy-winning actress, best known for her role in The Bear, has quickly become a rising fashion icon celebrated for her ability to blend vintage Hollywood elegance with modern minimalism.
Working closely with her stylist, Danielle Goldberg, Edebiri has cultivated a fashion identity that’s bold, intelligent, and deeply intentional — qualities that align with Chanel’s evolving creative direction.
Her first official red carpet appearance as an ambassador came at the “After the Hunt” premiere in London, where she wore a white draped gown from Chanel’s Spring 2026 collection — a look that symbolised both access and authenticity.
Edebiri’s appointment extends beyond representation; it signifies a broader reimagining of Chanel’s heritage through a more inclusive and multi-dimensional lens. For many observers, her role embodies a new era in which Black women and underrepresented voices are not just featured in fashion, but are active collaborators shaping its future.
