The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared that they will march to Apapa Ports today to protest.
On Monday, protesting students shut down roads leading to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja.
The students, whose schools have been closed since February, defied the heavy rain in Lagos on Monday to express their displeasure with the seven-month-old ASUU strike.
All access roads to the airport were blocked, which resulted in congestion throughout Lagos State’s Ikeja neighborhood. Flight operations were disrupted as airlines were forced to reschedule flights.
To express their displeasure with the strike, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has promised to march to Apapa Ports today.
In an interview with ThePunch, the association’s South West Coordinator, Adegboye Olatunji, said they are tired of staying at home.
“We will be moving to Apapa seaports on Tuesday if the Federal Government refuses to do the needful. Students are tired of staying at home,” Olatunji said.
Nigerians traveling in and out of Lagos were stranded last week when students blocked the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in protest of the strike.
Meanwhile, the National Industrial Court has stated that it will rule on an application filed by the Federal Government seeking a court order directing the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end its ongoing strike on September 21, 2022.
