The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced plans to mobilize massive voter participation to deliver at least one million votes for its candidate, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Ejimofor Opara, disclosed this in a statement issued in Anambra on Sunday, dismissing allegations that the party intends to engage in vote buying during the polls.
Opara described the reports as “false and mischievous,” stressing that APGA remains the dominant political force in Anambra and does not require inducements to secure victory.
He said the party is more focused on reversing the growing trend of voter apathy in the state through grassroots mobilization and introducing incentives to encourage healthy competition among local government areas and wards.
“In this election, we don’t just want to win; we want to mobilize and harness the full electoral strength of our party to hit the one million vote mark. To achieve this, we have introduced appropriate incentives that will encourage healthy competition across local governments,” Opara said.
He emphasized that the incentives are not related to vote buying but are aimed at promoting civic participation. “This is about increasing voter turnout, not buying votes. If anyone finds this initiative disturbing, then perhaps voter apathy serves their political interests,” he added.
The party spokesperson noted that in the 2021 governorship election, out of 2.7 million registered voters in Anambra, only about 200,000 people voted—a situation APGA seeks to change.
Citing APGA’s enduring popularity, Opara recalled that during the 2021 election, a woman in Ukwulu community rejected money from other parties just to vote for APGA, demonstrating the loyalty of the party’s supporters.
He reiterated that APGA’s plan to offer incentives for the most mobilized local governments and wards is purely to boost voter participation and ensure that the people of Anambra take full ownership of the electoral process.
