Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed the US Open crown on Sunday, defeating Jannik Sinner in four sets to capture his second title at Flushing Meadows and his sixth Grand Slam overall. The 22-year-old Spaniard triumphed 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, bouncing back from his Wimbledon final loss to the Italian in July.

The victory also returned Alcaraz to the top of the ATP world rankings for the first time since 2023. “The number one (ranking) is a goal I set almost at the start of the year,” Alcaraz said. “To achieve it the same day as winning another Grand Slam feels even better.”

Alcaraz, who won his first US Open in 2022, described his second crown as a sign of maturity. “The first US Open was about my youth; this one is more about growth,” he said. “I’m learning how to handle situations better, and I’m very proud of that.”

His New York campaign was dominant, dropping only one set – to Sinner in the final – and extending his winning streak at the tournament to 13 matches. “I feel like this is the best tournament I’ve ever played,” he said. “My consistency has been really high throughout.”

Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero praised Alcaraz’s evolution since his breakthrough two years ago. “Back then he was still playing on impulse,” Ferrero said. “Now he’s calmer, more experienced, and knows how to manage big moments.” He added that Alcaraz still has “plenty of room to grow.”

Looking ahead, Alcaraz said his next goal is to complete a career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open. “It’s always been in my mind,” he said. “If not next year, then in two, three, or four—I just want to complete it.”
