Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has staked $25,000 (about N36 million) on Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The singer disclosed the bet on Sunday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, sharing a screenshot of his betting slip. Davido wagered on both teams to score in the encounter, with a potential payout of $96,564, estimated at about N140 million.
“Let’s get this W Nigeria,” Davido wrote while tagging the betting platform.
This is not the first time the music superstar has publicly backed the Super Eagles with a hefty bet. Ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff match against Gabon, Davido had staked $10,000 (approximately N15 million), predicting a Nigerian win with both teams to score. That bet offered a possible payout of $50,194.58 (about N75.2 million), but Nigeria lost the match.
Despite the setback, Davido has continued to show strong support for the national team.
The Super Eagles will take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, at the Complex Sportif de Fes in Morocco, as Nigeria begins its campaign for a fourth AFCON title.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, head into the fixture as favourites after finishing as runners-up in the last edition of the tournament. However, optimism around the team has been tempered by their recent failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On paper, the odds favour Nigeria. The Super Eagles are ranked 38th in the latest FIFA rankings, while Tanzania sit 112th. Tanzania have also never defeated Nigeria in a competitive match.
With fans and high-profile supporters like Davido rallying behind the team, attention will be firmly on Fez as the Super Eagles aim to start their AFCON 2025 campaign on a winning note.
