Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua and his bride, Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, have made history as the first couple in Nigeria to wed aboard a moving train.

The unique ceremony took place on Sunday on the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, where one of the train’s coaches was transformed into a beautifully decorated wedding venue. Departing from the Alagomeji-Yaba Station in Lagos, the train carried the couple, their guests, and their love story on a symbolic journey across the tracks.

Following their traditional wedding, the white ceremony was held inside the moving train, with floral decorations, music, and an atmosphere filled with emotion. The couple exchanged vows, rings, and a kiss as guests, including actor Stan Nze, applauded the historic moment.

The creative idea for the event came from the bride, Sharon, an event planner, who envisioned turning an ordinary train ride into an extraordinary experience. Viral videos from the wedding captured the excitement as the bridal party rushed to board the train, adding to the sense of adventure and spontaneity.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) acknowledged the milestone, celebrating the event as a fusion of romance and innovation. In a post, the corporation said, “From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track. History made—the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination.”

The ceremony quickly gained traction on social media, drawing widespread praise for its creativity and symbolism. Many Nigerians described it as a proud display of modern love, entertainment, and infrastructure development.

The Faquas’ train wedding has since been hailed as a groundbreaking celebration—one that blended love, artistry, and progress, redefining the boundaries of wedding experiences in Nigeria.
