Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo social-cultural organization, has stated that it opposes all forms of violent agitation because it supports the country’s continued corporate existence.

The group made this announcement on Monday, October 3rd at a news conference in Abakaliki as part of celebrations for the 26th anniversary of the establishment of Ebonyi State in Nigeria and the 62nd anniversary of Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule.

However, the organization through Dr. Peter Mbam, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ebonyi chapter, stated that it was opposed to all forms of marginalization, including social injustice and poor governance, which is rampaging the country.

He asserted that Ohanaeze had a duty to defend Igbo people everywhere in the world as a social and cultural organization that represents the interests of the Igbo race both at home and in the Diaspora.

Because of the numerous projects that Gov. Dave Umahi’s administration started and finished that improved people’s lives, the group reaffirmed its solidarity and support for the administration.

The group emphasized the importance of all political actors ensuring that the general elections in 2023 will be peaceful in order to produce the desired results.

The group declared their unwavering support for Umahi’s proposal that power should transfer to the Ebonyi North senatorial zone, pointing that maintaining the state’s power rotation would be in the best interests of each of the three geopolitical zones that make up the state.
