A minute’s silence will be held ahead of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 clash between Portugal and Spain on Thursday, in honor of Portuguese striker Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident.
UEFA confirmed the tribute in a statement released Thursday morning, saying:
“A moment of silence will be observed at all UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 matches scheduled for today and tomorrow in memory of Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who sadly lost their lives in a road accident.”

The Portuguese Football Federation also announced that it had formally requested the tribute to honor the late footballer and his brother.
Portugal and Spain are scheduled to face off in their opening Group B match at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern, with kickoff set for 21:00 CET.
