Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, during a brief stop in the South-East region as part of his off-season engagements.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper, who plays for Italian Serie A club Udinese, arrived at the Enugu State Government House on Tuesday afternoon, where he was warmly received by Governor Mbah and top government officials.

Clad in a simple traditional outfit and visibly humbled by the reception, Okoye expressed his deep appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the governor. He also acknowledged the support and love he continues to receive from football fans across the country, particularly from the South-East.

“This is my first official visit to Enugu, and I must say I feel at home,” Okoye said. “The warmth and hospitality have been overwhelming. It’s always a great feeling to connect with the people and share moments with leaders who are passionate about youth empowerment and sports development.”

Governor Mbah, in his remarks, commended Okoye for being a positive ambassador of Nigeria both on and off the pitch. He described the goalkeeper as a role model to many young Nigerians and praised his resilience and commitment to national duty.

“We are proud of you, Maduka. Your journey and success so far are an inspiration to many youths,” Governor Mbah said. “Here in Enugu, we are committed to investing in sports infrastructure and creating more opportunities for young talents to thrive. Your visit further strengthens our resolve to support and celebrate our heroes.”

As part of the visit, the governor presented Okoye with a symbolic gift on behalf of the state and hinted at potential collaborations in grassroots football development. The goalkeeper also took time to meet with young football enthusiasts at a brief meet-and-greet held later at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Maduka Okoye, who made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2019, has steadily grown into one of Nigeria’s most promising goalkeepers. His visit to Enugu adds to a series of community engagements aimed at inspiring the next generation of Nigerian athletes.
