Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated ten new Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Digital Learning Centres across ten states of the federation.
The centres, located in Abia, Delta, Edo, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara States, were commissioned virtually on Thursday from the State House, Abuja.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mrs. Tinubu said the initiative demonstrates the administration’s commitment to expanding digital literacy and promoting inclusive growth in Nigeria. She noted that the advancement of technology-driven education is vital for empowering young people and fostering national development.
“I urge members of the various beneficiary communities to make good use of these facilities to enhance learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship,” she stated. “By providing communities with the resources required to develop ICT skills, we are empowering our people to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.”
The First Lady added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its goal of accelerating economic diversification through industrialization and digitalization. She emphasized that digitizing sectors such as agriculture and petty trading will improve the ease of doing business and increase profitability for citizens.
In his remarks, Director-General of NITDA, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, described digital transformation as a key driver of economic diversification and national development. “This signifies unlocking potentials across various sectors, especially among women and youth,” he said, commending the Renewed Hope Initiative for its role in promoting digital inclusion and national prosperity.
Wives of state governors from the benefiting states joined the virtual inauguration from their respective locations.
The event marks another milestone in the partnership between RHI and NITDA to deepen digital education and inclusion across Nigeria. So far, 296 digital learning centres have been established under the current administration, including 15 in collaboration with RHI. NITDA also plans to build an additional 148 centres, bringing the total to 592 by 2027.
