Top Nigerian opposition figures converged at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, 2027, in a high-level meeting aimed at forging a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Present at the meeting were former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar; Labour Party’s Peter Obi; former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

The gathering also included former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, who have been named interim national chairman and national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), respectively. Both recently resigned from their former parties to assume their new roles in the ADC.

Other notable attendees included former lawmaker Senator Dino Melaye; ex-Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalong; publisher Dele Momodu; Senator Gabriel Suswam; Labour Party’s Senator Ireti Kingibe; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; and retired Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

The meeting brought together leaders and members from various opposition parties including the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Labour Party (LP). In a strategic move, the coalition officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections.
