Gunmen have attacked a Mobile Police (MOPOL) checkpoint in New Kalli, Wawa Ward of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, barely two days after a deadly assault on Kasuwar Daji market in the same area.
The latest attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday at about 12:30 a.m., according to local sources. The assailants reportedly set fire to the living quarters of the police officers stationed at the checkpoint, destroyed farm produce and carted away some personal belongings.
No casualties were recorded during the raid.
“They burnt their room and packed some of their belongings,” a local source told SaharaReporters.
The incident comes on the heels of the Kasuwar Daji market attack, which left more than 40 people dead, with scores of others—including children and elderly women—abducted. Many of the victims were residents of rural communities within Borgu Local Government Area.
The renewed violence has heightened fears among residents, as security concerns continue to mount in the area following the recent massacre.
