Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has died. He passed away on Tuesday while receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
His death was confirmed by Chief Nkem Ossai, an elder statesman close to the family, who described the late lawmaker popularly known as Ideke—as a compassionate leader deeply committed to the development of his constituency.
Ossai said the news has thrown Nsukka and the wider Enugu North zone into mourning, noting that many residents were shocked, especially as the senator had reportedly recovered from a partial stroke three months earlier.
“It’s a sad day. Nsukka has been thrown into mourning. Enugu North has lost a dedicated man who vowed to restore and develop his senatorial zone. The atmosphere has remained sombre since the news broke,” he said.
The late Ezea was the only remaining Labour Party lawmaker from Enugu State in the National Assembly, following the recent defections of other LP legislators to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
