Dangote Industries Limited has distanced itself from the truck involved in Wednesday’s fatal accident at Four Corner Junction, Enugu State.

The crash, which occurred around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla. The vehicle, bearing the logo of Dangote, was later identified as belonging to Visco Investment Global Limited and was reportedly travelling from Aba to Abuja when the incident happened.

Eyewitness reports and videos shared online had initially linked the truck to the Dangote Group, sparking criticism on social media.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company dismissed the claims, stressing that the truck was not part of its fleet.

“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to find out why the truck was carrying our logo when it is not linked to the Group,” the statement read. “Going forward, we will apply stricter scrutiny to prevent unauthorised use of our brand identity.”

Dangote Group added that while it normally avoids commenting on individual cases, it was compelled to respond to widespread misinformation.

“We urge the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims. We are committed to cooperating with relevant authorities and insist investigations should run their course without interference,” the company stated.

The conglomerate also rejected attempts to “exploit tragedies for malicious or financial gain,” reaffirming its commitment to safety and corporate responsibility.

In recent years, trucks branded with Dangote’s identity have been linked to several road accidents across Nigeria, fuelling public outcry.

Just last month, Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija winner Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor, died from injuries after being hit by a truck associated with the Group near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.

The incident has renewed calls for stricter regulation of heavy-duty vehicles carrying Dangote’s brand signature.
