The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has revealed that its Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit (FIFAU) has investigated more than 500 asset declaration forms as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public service.
Chairman of the Bureau, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday in a statement issued to mark his first year in office. The statement, signed by the Director of Special Duties, Mr. Moses Atolagbe, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to Bello, the investigations—carried out under the bureau’s newly created FIFAU—exposed several discrepancies that would guide enforcement actions against erring public officers.
He noted that the bureau had verified the asset declaration forms of nine ministers, 43 permanent secretaries, and 40 federal directors, adding that the verification exercise would continue to ensure full compliance across ministries and departments.
Bello also announced the launch of an online asset declaration system, which allows public officers to download and submit the CCB Form-1 via the bureau’s website, www.ccb.gov.ng. He said the digital initiative has saved the bureau millions of naira previously spent on printing manual forms.
In the past year, the CCB has trained 199 staff members in investigation, verification, forensic analysis, and ethical governance to boost operational efficiency. Zonal offices led by directors have also been established nationwide to enhance intelligence gathering, investigation, and prosecution.
To strengthen enforcement, Bello said the bureau had entered into partnerships with local and international anti-corruption agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NFIU, and several foreign embassies.
He added that the CCB now represents Nigeria in global forums such as the Cambridge Economic Crime Forum and the U.S. IVLO 2025, and has joined the Association of Commonwealth Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa.
Reaffirming his administration’s anti-corruption stance, Bello said the bureau’s guiding principle remains “Declare or Forfeit,” urging all public officers to uphold transparency and integrity in asset declaration.
Bello, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 23, 2024, reiterated his commitment to reforming the bureau and advancing Nigeria’s anti-corruption agenda.
