A 54-year-old woman from Jakana, Borno State, was arrested by the Yobe State Police Command for allegedly trafficking 350 rounds of live ammunition. The arrest occurred on October 20, 2024, after police received a tip-off about a suspected gunrunner traveling to Damaturu. Upon intercepting her vehicle, officers discovered the ammunition concealed in her luggage. The police are conducting further investigations to uncover the broader criminal network involved.
The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as authorities investigate the criminal network involved in this trafficking case. The police emphasized the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities
According to DSP Abdulkarim, the suspect hails from Morami village in Jakana, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, and was apprehended by officers from the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Damaturu.
The statement read, “On October 20, 2024, at about 1830 hours, ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, received credible intelligence regarding a suspected gunrunner en route to Damaturu. “Swift action led to the interception of a Golf 3 saloon car, and a thorough search revealed 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition concealed in the suspect’s luggage.” Abdulkarim said that the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as investigators work to unravel the criminal network and motives behind the trafficking. “The Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and urged community members to sustain their cooperation with security agencies.
