The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, were both absent on Tuesday at the sixth edition of the Voice of Women 2022 Conference and Awards in Abuja.

The event, with the theme ‘Towards rebuilding Nigeria: An agenda for an inclusive and accountable Nigeria,’ was organized by Women Radio 91.7 FM and Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation, with support from the MacArthur Foundation, and provided an opportunity for presidential candidates or their running mates to explain their plans and commitments to Nigerian women ahead of the 2023 elections.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, was not present but was represented by his running partner, Kashim Shettima.

Shettima promised Nigerian women that Tinubu’s administration will be welcoming to them if elected in 2023.

Shettima added that the APC will make gender equity and fairness a primary focus of the Asiwaju Tinubu government.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, committed to support the passage of a new law requiring the reserve of a certain percentage of all elective and appointive posts for women and youths.

Obi asserted that, despite the fact that the country was disintegrating, women can contribute admirably to rescuing it.

He praised the women in his cabinet for their contributions to his achievement as governor of Anambra State, saying they were more industrious than the males.
