Linus Okorie, the Labour Party candidate for Ebonyi South senatorial zone, who is opposing state governor David Umahi, has allegedly been kidnapped.
Okorie served in the Ebonyi House of Representatives, representing the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Constituency.
His wife, Nkiru, said in a video shared on Twitter by Dr Charles Odogwu on Monday that her husband had been kidnapped by the Ebubeagu security team, which she claimed worked for Umahi.
Umahi is the state governor and the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ebonyi South senatorial zone in the 2023 elections.
Nkiru said she was out of the country for a master’s degree, but when she couldn’t contact him on the phone, she was told he had been kidnapped.
Nkiru further accused Governor Umahi of extorting money from Okorie because of his political aspirations.
She said Umahi withdrew her husband from office after assuring her in 2015 that her husband was one of the National Assembly’s top performers.
She further said that Governor Umahi told Okorie that he needed to pay him before he could return to the House of Representatives.
