Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has come under fire on social media for claiming that northerners do not need a Yoruba or Igbo candidate in 2023.
His remark drew outrage on social media, with many accusing him of canvassing votes along ethnic lines while professing to be a “unifier.”
Festus Keyamo, the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign spokesperson, tweeted that Atiku should get out of the race immediately because of his statement.
Keyamo tweeted “This is the height of desperation & daredevilry on the part of Atiku! This is so horrendous, so horrible & so thoughtless for Atiku Abubakar to use ethnicity to campaign, saying the North does not need a YORUBA OR IBO candidate? My God! Atiku needs to quit the race TODAY!”
