Mr. Uchenna Agbo has emerged as the new President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) following a credible election held on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
Agbo, who previously served as the Vice President of the Guild, defeated renowned filmmaker and Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), Mr. Teco Benson, in a keenly contested race. His victory marks a new chapter for the association of professional film and television directors across Nigeria.
A graduate of Theatre and Film Studies from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Agbo is also the convener of the Coal City Film Festival, recognized as the biggest film festival in South East Nigeria. His election has been greeted with widespread congratulations from industry stakeholders, describing him as a worthy thespian and committed advocate for Nollywood’s growth.
The election was part of the Guild’s national exercise to usher in a new executive body, with members voting across zones to determine the leadership for the coming term.
