A fatal accident in Enugu State is said to have killed many passengers.
The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday (October 30th) night along the Enugu/Port Harcourt road near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla.
The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the accident and called it “unfortunate.”
Although the FRSC could not provide a number of fatalities, reports claimed that 13 passengers were burnt beyond recognition.
According to reports, the accident involved a 14-seater bus traveling from Imo State to Adamawa. The vehicle allegedly collided with a trailer before bursting into flames.
Mr Joseph Toby, Enugu State Sector Commander, FRSC, confirmed the incident and told our correspondent that operation was still underway at the scene of the accident.
Any figure out there, he claims, is false and speculative.
“My boys are still at the accident scene,” he said. A commercial vehicle was involved in the crash that resulted in the fire. So, as I’m telling you now, my people are still there; we don’t know the exact number of people involved, and I don’t want to start giving you incorrect information.
“However, as soon as we have more information, we will post it online.” We do not know how many people were involved. It happened last night. We were there with the fire department all night to make sure the fire was put out, but due to the sit-at-home order, we found it difficult to get there this morning; eventually, I took my boys and we are there now. Any number you see is purely speculative because we must be absolutely certain of what we give to the public.”
He, on the other hand, described the incident as unfortunate.
