Three Indian fighter jets reportedly crashed on Wednesday in the Jammu and Kashmir region, according to four local government sources. The incident occurred just hours after India announced it had carried out air strikes on nine alleged “terrorist infrastructure” sites across the border in Pakistan.
While the Indian government has yet to confirm the cause of the crashes, it remains unclear whether they were due to technical failures or linked to a possible retaliatory response from Pakistan.
A spokesperson for the Pakistani military claimed that five Indian aircraft were shot down in retaliation for the cross-border strikes. However, this assertion has not been verified by Indian authorities.
The incidents signal a sharp escalation in tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours, heightening fears of further conflict in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Both nations are yet to issue formal diplomatic statements on the situation, as the international community watches developments with growing concern.
