On Monday, October 24th, residents and members of the Osun State Fire Service foiled an attempt by one Saheed Oladeji to commit suicide in Osogbo.
Oladeji was said to have jumped into the River Osun in the early morning hours from beneath the Gbodofon bridge in Osogbo.
However, as Oladeji was about to commit the act, some people near the bridge raised the alarm and attempted to rescue him.
It was also revealed that firefighters arrived on the scene and used a rope to pull him out of the river.
Last Thursday, October 20th, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped into the Osun River from Gbodofon bridge after receiving a call.
In a short video released after his rescue, Oladeji stated that he lived alone in Osogbo while his wife and children lived in Lagos.
Osun State Fire Service spokesperson Ibraheem Adekunle confirmed the incident, saying;
“We received a distress call, and men rushed to the scene.” We saved the man. He’d already dove into the river.
“The latest attempt by the man, who gave his name as Saheed Oladeji, was said to be his third attempt to take his life,” Adekunle said.
