The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, on 4th June 2025, held a strategic meeting with the Enugu State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Abel Sunu Wadahi.
The high-level engagement focused on enhancing drug control strategies within Enugu North LGA through improved collaboration and proactive intervention efforts.
During the meeting, both leaders critically examined ongoing drug interception operations and discussed ways to strengthen intelligence gathering. They emphasized the need for deeper synergy between the NDLEA and local government structures to facilitate swift, coordinated responses to drug-related activities.
The conversation also spotlighted the importance of fostering community participation in the fight against illicit drugs.
A central part of the discussion was aligning local enforcement mechanisms with the NDLEA’s broader objectives, particularly in areas of public sensitization, early intervention, and preventive enforcement.
Both parties expressed commitment to implementing sustainable frameworks that will support the safety and wellbeing of Enugu North residents.
Commander Wadahi commended the current security architecture of Enugu State, noting that under the leadership of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the state remains one of the safest in Nigeria. He reiterated the significance of inter-agency cooperation and continuous enforcement to maintain this status and effectively curb drug-related threats.
Describing the meeting as timely and impactful, the chairman affirmed the local government’s dedication to protecting its communities and future generations. He noted that the collaboration with NDLEA marks a critical step in reinforcing drug control efforts across Enugu North LGA, assuring residents of ongoing commitment to a safer, healthier society.
