Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, while addressing the passing-out parade of Courses 3 and 4 of the State Amotekun Corps, Monday September 26, in Akure, stated that the region’s Security Network Agency, codenamed ‘Amotekun,’ must be allowed to carry appropriate tools and weapons to combat crimes against humanity.
Akeredolu explained that the country’s indisputable authority must be imposed in the face of brazen conflict entrepreneurs as well as armed and audacious non-state actors.
The governor said that the law-abiding state security forces, whether in western Nigeria, Katsina, Borno, Benue, or any other northern state, must have access to the same sophisticated weapons.
He maintained that his administration would continue to support the operational capacity of all state security agencies, both in terms of equipment and personnel welfare.
The governor emphasized that the passing out ceremony was a reminder of the need to strategize and address the current security situation in Nigeria, which he said had been allowed to snowball into existential crises.
Akeredolu stated that his administration’s commitment to the safety and welfare of the people of the state and investors was unwavering, adding that;
“The key guiding principles, which you must adhere to at all times include spartan discipline, zero-tolerance to bribery and abuse of power, prompt response to distress calls and display of professionalism in the discharge of your duties. No form of misconduct shall be tolerated.”
