Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis after missing the team’s Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal.
The 26-year-old France captain was absent from training on Tuesday due to a fever and was subsequently left out of the squad for Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with the Saudi Arabian side.
On Thursday, Real Madrid confirmed that Mbappé is undergoing “various tests and treatment” in hospital for the illness, which affects the digestive system and can cause symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Real Madrid are set to face Pachuca in their next Club World Cup match on Sunday at 20:00 BST.
Mbappé has made an impressive impact in his debut season with the Spanish giants, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions since his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
