Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of highly-rated teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono from River Plate.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has agreed to a six-year contract and will join the Spanish giants on August 14, shortly after the Club World Cup — the date he turns 18.
River Plate described the move as “the largest transfer in the history of Argentine football,” with the club set to receive approximately £38 million after Mastantuono’s release clause was activated.
The young talent had attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports from Sky Sports News.
Although River Plate initially hoped to retain Mastantuono until the end of 2025, they reached an agreement to keep him for the upcoming Club World Cup before his departure.
Mastantuono recently made headlines by becoming the youngest-ever player to represent Argentina during the latest international break. Now, the teenage prodigy is set to begin his European journey with Real Madrid later this summer.
