The Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu was alive with youthful exuberance and roaring cheers on Saturday, May 17, 2025, as Rangers International FC celebrated the International Day of the Boy Child in spectacular fashion.
Organized in collaboration with private partners, the event featured vibrant festivities capped by spirited victories from the Rangers Academicals’ U-13 and U-16 squads.
The celebration drew an impressive array of dignitaries and passionate football supporters.
Notable attendees included Barr. Steve Oruruo, Chairman of the PDP Disciplinary Committee for the South-East and former Chairman of the Rangers Management Corporation; Hon. Obiora Onyia, former SSA to the Enugu State Governor (representing Senator Osita Ngwu of Enugu West); Barr. Chima Obieze of the Enugu State House of Assembly; and Ebere Amaraizu, Chairman of the Rangers Foundation. These and other prominent figures gathered to underscore the significance of uplifting the Boy Child.
Rangers CEO Amobi Ezeaku expressed pride in the club’s initiative, reinforcing its commitment to youth development. “It is truly inspiring to witness today’s celebration of the Boy Child,” said Ezeaku. “As part of our long-term vision at Rangers, we are focused on creating opportunities for young talents to shine, both on and off the pitch. The highlight of the day unfolded on the field, where the young Rangers Academicals showcased their talent in two thrilling friendly matches. The U-16 team edged past St. Patrick College, Emene, with a 2-1 win, while the U-13 side delivered an impressive 2-0 victory over St. Paul, Eke’s U-17 team.
Commending the initiative, Barr. Steve Oruruo encouraged young boys to persevere through adversity and strive for excellence. He praised the Rangers management for their strategic vision in reviving the Academicals program, which has long been a bedrock of talent development in Enugu.
One of the day’s most significant moments was the official unveiling of Master Isreal Umeh as captain of the Rangers Academicals. The occasion also featured the presentation of sporting equipment generously donated by the players’ parents and coaches, highlighting the shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of footballers.
