As the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) faces internal discord and a growing wave of defections, former Anambra State PDP Chairman, Dan Ulasi, has called on the party to consider a strategic alliance with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, Ulasi described Obi as one of the most credible and principled figures in Nigerian politics, urging the PDP to put aside internal rivalry and approach him for collaboration.
“Peter Obi is a factor of progress. He is a success in himself,” Ulasi said. “In the last presidential election, he had over six million votes. If there are no overly ambitious individuals in the PDP who fear being overshadowed or losing relevance, then the party should not hesitate to engage him.”
Ulasi stressed that the priority should be Nigeria’s future, not personal or party interests. He praised Obi for his integrity, performance, and leadership qualities—attributes he believes are sorely needed in the country’s governance.
He also warned that internal resistance within the PDP, driven by self-interest, could derail efforts toward national development. “If the party is truly focused on delivering credible leadership and a better Nigeria, then Peter Obi is someone they should talk to,” he said.
Highlighting Obi’s influence and strong voter base, Ulasi said he would be willing to use his personal relationship with the former Anambra governor to facilitate a dialogue if the PDP expresses genuine interest. “If the party approaches me for advice, I have enough connection with Peter Obi to convince him of the need for unity and collective action to stop the menace currently going on in Abuja.”
Ulasi’s remarks come amid growing tensions and realignments within
