The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The examination, which is a key requirement for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, was taken by a total of 1,955,069 candidates across the country.
According to the statistical breakdown released by JAMB on Monday, only 420,415 candidates managed to score above 200. The data also showed that just 7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319, while a smaller number—4,756 candidates—scored above 320, highlighting a general decline in high performance.
The 2025 UTME was conducted at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other states. The results have sparked renewed conversations around the quality of education and exam preparedness among Nigerian students.
