The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, just two days after celebrating his birthday.
According to reports, the revered monarch died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, bringing to an end a brief but impactful reign that lasted just one year.
Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne on July 12, 2024, and was formally presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. He became the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, following the city’s distinct and well-structured traditional chieftaincy succession system.
His passing marks a moment of deep sorrow for the people of Ibadan and the entire Yoruba nation, who held the Olubadan in high esteem as a custodian of tradition, unity, and cultural pride.
