Veteran Nollywood actor and comedian Okey Bakassi has been crowned the traditional ruler of Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State. The entertainer, whose real name is Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, now holds the title His Royal Highness Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule, the Okwe II of Umuihuocha Obohia.
The coronation ceremony, held in accordance with Igbo customs, was captured in a video shared by Bakassi on Tuesday. The event drew a large turnout from the community, including elders, dignitaries, and cultural performers. Dressed in traditional royal regalia, Bakassi was presented with symbols of authority amidst music, dancing, and other displays of Igbo heritage.
“Special presentation as king (Eze) of Umuihuocha community,” he wrote in a caption accompanying the video on Instagram. The post has since attracted widespread attention, with congratulatory messages pouring in from fans, colleagues, and admirers globally.
Known for his long-standing contributions to Nigerian entertainment, Bakassi’s new role signifies a transition into community leadership. As Okwe II, he becomes the second monarch to bear that title in the community’s history.
In his new capacity, Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule is expected to promote cultural preservation, foster peace, and support local development efforts within Umuihuocha and surrounding areas.
