NwafoTV has paid a condolence visit to the family of late Nigerian highlife icon, Gentle Mike Ejeagha, as plans for his funeral begin to take shape.

During an exclusive interview with the eldest son of the deceased, Mr. Emmanuel Chibuike Ejeagha, the family expressed deep appreciation to NwafoTV for their solidarity and support following the passing of the music legend. Mr. Ejeagha confirmed that his father died in April 2025 after a brief illness, just two days after being admitted to the hospital.

Describing his late father, Mr. Emmanuel said, “My father lived a peaceful and loving life, which he communicated through his music and interactions with everyone around him.” He added that Mike Ejeagha’s songs, known for their moral lessons and promotion of peace, have had a positive impact on generations of Nigerians.

He revealed that one of his father’s final wishes was not to be kept in a morgue after death. In respect of this wish, and with the approval of the Enugu State Government, the family buried him the day after his passing, despite initial objections from some quarters.

While discussions are ongoing among the immediate family members regarding a suitable date for the funeral celebration, Mr. Ejeagha noted that the public and government will be duly informed once a decision is made.

He thanked Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the support given to his father while alive, including financial assistance and the renaming of a major road in Abakpa as “Ejeagha Road” in his honour. He also appreciated the numerous Nigerians who visited and supported the late musician during his lifetime.

Mr. Emmanuel appealed to both the state and federal governments to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of the road leading to their family house in Eziagbo, Mike Ejeagha’s hometown, to ease access for mourners expected at the national funeral. He also called for the electrification of the community and renovation of the family house to support the upcoming burial.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to NwafoTV for standing by the family during this period of loss
