Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and Second Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, has confirmed that the 2025/2026 NPFL season will officially begin on Friday, August 22, 2025, and run through to Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Speaking at the NFF headquarters in Abuja, Elegbeleye emphasized that the new schedule is designed to align Nigeria’s domestic football calendar with Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA timelines. He stressed that this alignment will provide greater stability, improve planning, and enhance club preparedness for both domestic and continental competitions.

“We’ve fixed August 22, 2025, as the start date for the new NPFL season, which will conclude on May 24, 2026,” Elegbeleye announced. “This is part of a broader strategy to ensure consistency and give clubs sufficient time for preseason and recovery.”

The upcoming season will maintain the traditional 20-team format, following the success of the 2024/25 campaign in which Remo Stars claimed their first-ever league title in May.

Fixtures, player registration guidelines, and broadcast arrangements for the new season are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

With a confirmed calendar now in place, clubs, fans, broadcasters, and stakeholders can begin preparations for what promises to be a competitive and commercially significant NPFL season.
