Newly formed NLO outfit Bright Stars FC of Ukpakiri began their debut NLO adventure with a narrow 1-0 defeat in the hands of fellow debutants Inter Aba FC in a contest that exuded rivalry beyond the limit.
The much anticipated encounter got underway at the OISA stadium Okpala in the second game of matchday in the ongoing 2025 Nationwide League One. A clash that had everything on the cards to jostle for-with bragging rights amid an important play-off spot the headline target for both sides.
The Stars made an impressive start with couple of early domination as they sought for an early goal, but a resolute Inter Aba backline had answers to their pressing goal scoring questions as they stood tall and pretty much disciplined to weather all the early pressure.
Against the run of play Inter Aba took the lead as Nnanna Ibe latched onto a Gospel Enwereji fierce delivery to poke home from close range, leaving goalkeeper Goodluck Uwaoma helpless for the game’s opening goal which would eventually turn out to be the matchwinner as the first half ended leaving Inter Aba FC with a slim advantage at the break.
The second half had couple of alterations from the Bright Stars rank as coach Chijioke Osuagwu brought the duo of Chiedozie Amos and Robert Chuks to inject vigour into his side as they pressed for an early equalising goal.
The second half entrants brought life into the game for Bright Stars FC as they had a lion share of possessions but the resilience of the Inter Aba backline stood firm. All efforts for Bright Stars to draw level proved futile upon the 90 minute hour mak as the centre referee finally brought hostilities to climax.
For the wounded Bright Stars FC, it’s still a journey of ambition and redress of balance as they trade tackles with Jaguar FC on matchday 2, with Kick-off billed for 12pm.
