Teni Apata, popularly known as Teni, a Nigerian Afrobeat singer, has been trending on social media for allegedly failing to greet or shake President Muhammadu Buhari while receiving a national award.
On Tuesday, October 12, President Buhari conferred the National Honours Award on 447 persons at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
During the award ceremony, Teni was the only recipient who did not greet or shake the President’s hand when receiving her award.
Her actions sparked heated debate among Nigerians, who saw Teni’s actions as either disrespectful to the presidency or commendable to the spirit of activism.
