The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced that the airlift of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj will begin on May 9. This was disclosed on Tuesday following a briefing by the NAHCON board to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate and Licensing, Prince Anofi Elegushi, said comprehensive arrangements have been finalized to ensure a smooth and successful pilgrimage.
“We have secured accommodations in Mecca, Medina, and other key locations. All facilities are in place, including bed spaces and catering services,” Elegushi said. “The first flight is scheduled for May 9 through Medina, and we aim to complete the outbound journey by May 24. Return flights will commence on June 13 and conclude by July 2.”
Elegushi added that over 40,000 pilgrims, including officials and 13,000 pilgrims from tour operators, will participate in the exercise, and that all logistics for their transportation in and out of Saudi Arabia have been completed.
NAHCON Chairman, Professor Saleh Abdullahi Usman, noted that Vice President Shettima was satisfied with the level of preparedness and encouraged the Commission to maintain the momentum.
In his remarks, the Vice President emphasized the importance of thorough planning and coordination to ensure a successful pilgrimage.
“All necessary measures must be taken to guarantee the success of the 2025 Hajj. We owe it to Nigerians and our pilgrims to deliver a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience,” Shettima stated.
